  Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2015 will be organized by Indian Institute of Technlogy (IIT), Kanpur. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) jointly administer the conduct the GATE.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of the candidate in various undergraduate subjects in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and post-graduate level subjects in Science.

In admission to various post graduate programmes like M.E., M.Tech, Ph.D etc in in Indian institutes of higher education with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies GATE score plays major role. The score may also be used by Public and Private Sector Undertakings for employment screening purposes.

GATE 2015 Exam Pattern: All 22 papers will come with a total of 65 questions carrying 100 marks, out of which 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks are in General Aptitude (GA).

In the papers bearing the codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PI, TF and XE, the Engineering Mathematics will carry around 15% of the total marks, the General Aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks and the remaining 70% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.

In the papers bearing the codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH and XL, the General Aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks and the remaining 85% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.

GATE 2015 would contain questions of two different types in various papers: 
  1. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) carrying 1 or 2 marks each in all papers and sections. These questions are objective in nature, and each will have a choice of four answers, out of which the candidate has to mark the correct answer(s). 
  2. Numerical Answer Questions of 1 or 2 marks each in all papers and sections. For these questions the answer is a real number, to be entered by the candidate using the virtual keypad. No choices will be shown for this type of questions.  
GATE 2015 Important dates:
  • Start of application process: September 1, 2014
  • Last date for submission of online application: October 1, 2014
  • Last date for request for change in the choice of examination city: November 21, 2014
  • Availability of admit card: December 17, 2014
  • GATE 2015 online examination: January 31, 2015 to February 14, 2015
  • Announcement of results: March 12, 2015
GATE 2015 Fee & Payment Option: The payment of application fees would be online through different modes like net banking, debit/credit card, e-challan, etc.

GATE 2015 How to Apply: All candidates can apply for GATE 2015 through online mode only. No other mode can be accepted.

For GATE 2015 the entire process of filling up of application form, uploading of certificates/documents, etc., will be online and the candidates should not send any hard copy of their application form/documents, etc., to any of the IIT/IISc zonal GATE office.

An online interface is provided for your interaction with the GATE Office. With this interface you can
  1. Apply for the examination online. 
  2. Upload photograph, signature and other documents like graduation certificate/ certificate from Principal, caste certificate (if applicable) etc. 
  3. Pay the application fee through net-banking. 
  4. Check the Status of your application form: Received, Under Scrutiny, Accepted, Defect Status, Status after Rectification, Rejected with Valid Reasons, Admit Card Ready for Download, etc. 
  5. Contact the Zonal GATE Offices in case of any queries/problems. 
  6. Download Admit Card. 
  7. View your answers, marks and GATE score.
GATE 2015 Admit Cards: The Admit Card can only be downloaded from the zonal GATE websites tentatively from 17th December 2014. Admit Cards will NOT be sent by post/email. Bring a print-out of the downloaded Admit Card to the Test Center along with the original and valid photo identification.

GATE 2015 Syllabus:
  1.  General Aptitude (GA): Common to All Papers
  2. Verbal Ability: English grammar, sentence completion, verbal analogies, word groups, instructions, critical reasoning and verbal deduction. 
  3. Numerical Ability: Numerical computation, numerical estimation, numerical reasoning and data interpretation.  
GATE 2015 Result: Announcement of Results on the Online Application Website GATE 2015 examinations on March 12, 2015 at 17:00 Hrs.
